How to Install Wall Décor in Under 5 Minutes (Yes, Really!)

How to Install Wall Décor in Under 5 Minutes (Yes, Really!)

We've all been there: you just bought the perfect piece of wall art, you're excited to transform your space, but then you stare at the wall thinking, "How exactly do I do this without messing it up?"

Here's the good news: installing acrylic wall décor is easier than you think. No special skills required. No expensive tools needed. And definitely no need to call someone to do it for you.

In fact, with the right approach, you can have your wall art up and looking professional in under 5 minutes. We even include everything you need right in the box!

What You'll Need (We've Got You Covered)

The beauty of ordering from Custom3D Factory? We include the right installation hardware based on your piece and wall type.

What We Provide:

For smooth walls:

  • Pre-attached adhesive strips on the back of your décor
  • No drilling required - just peel and stick!

For pieces larger than 60cm OR rough/textured walls:

  • Screws and fisher plugs (rawlplugs) included in your package
  • These create a super-strong, permanent hold

What You'll Need to Bring:

For adhesive strip installation:

  • A pencil (for marking placement)
  • A measuring tape or ruler
  • A level (or smartphone app)
  • A clean, dry cloth

For screw installation:

  • A pencil (for marking)
  • A measuring tape or ruler
  • A drill with the appropriate bit (for making holes in the wall)
  • A screwdriver or drill driver
  • A level (or use a free smartphone level app)

Optional but Helpful:

  • A step stool or ladder (if hanging high)
  • An eraser (to remove pencil marks)
  • A friend to help with larger pieces

Step 1: Choose Your Spot (30 Seconds)

This is the most important step, so don't rush it.

The Golden Rule: Eye Level is the Right Level

Your wall art should be hung so the center of the piece sits at eye level - approximately 57 to 60 inches from the floor. This is the standard height used in galleries and museums because it's the most comfortable viewing height for most people.

Exception: If you're hanging art above furniture (like a sofa, bed, or console table), leave about 6 to 8 inches of space between the top of the furniture and the bottom of your art.

Pro tip for Nigerian homes: Many of us have high ceilings. Don't be tempted to hang your art too high just because you have the space. Keep it at eye level for maximum impact. The white space above creates an airy, luxurious feel.

Step 2: Mark Your Spot (1 Minute)

Now that you know where your art is going, let's mark it.

For Single-Piece Wall Art:

  1. Measure the width of your wall and find the center point
  2. Mark lightly with a pencil at your desired height (remember: 57-60 inches to the center of the art)
  3. If using screws: measure where the mounting holes are on the back of your piece and mark those exact spots on the wall
  4. If using adhesive strips: mark the outline of where your piece will sit

For Multi-Piece Sets (3-Piece, 4-Piece, etc.):

  1. Lay all the pieces on the floor in your desired arrangement
  2. Measure the total width of the arrangement (including spacing between pieces)
  3. Find the center of your wall
  4. Mark where each piece will go, keeping 2 to 4 inches of space between pieces
  5. Use your level to make sure all marks are aligned

Quick trick: Cut out paper templates the same size as your art pieces, tape them to the wall, and step back to see how it looks before making any holes. Adjust until it's perfect, then mark through the paper.

Step 3: Install Your Hardware (2 Minutes)

Now here's where it gets easy - we've already included everything you need!

Method A:

For Smooth Walls (Adhesive Strips - No Drilling!)

If you have smooth, painted walls, your décor comes with adhesive strips already attached to the back. This is the easiest installation method - no tools required!

Step-by-step:

  1. Clean the wall: Wipe the area where you'll hang your art with a clean, dry cloth to remove any dust or dirt. This ensures maximum adhesion.

  2. Position your piece CAREFULLY: This is critical - once you stick it, you cannot reposition it. Hold your wall décor against the wall at your marked spot to double-check placement. Make sure it's exactly where you want it and that it's level.

  3. Peel off the protective cover: Remove the backing from the adhesive strips on the back of your art piece. Don't touch the sticky surface.

  4. Press firmly to the wall: Align your art piece with your marks and press it firmly against the wall. Apply even pressure across the entire piece, especially pressing around all the sections where the adhesive strips are located to ensure they stick properly. Hold for 30 seconds.

  5. Let it set: For maximum hold, avoid touching or adjusting the piece for at least 1 hour after installation.

That's it! No drilling, no mess, no stress. Your art is up and looking perfect.

IMPORTANT - Read Before Installing:

  • You cannot reposition adhesive installations! Once stuck, attempting to remove and reposition will damage the wall or the adhesive. Make absolutely sure of your placement before sticking.
  • Adhesive strips work best on smooth, painted walls
  • Wait at least 7-14 days after painting before using adhesive strips (fresh paint needs time to cure)
  • Not recommended for textured, rough, or porous walls - contact us for screws and fisher plugs instead

Method B: For Pieces Over 60cm or Rough/Textured Walls (Screws & Fisher Plugs)

Your package includes screws and fisher plugs for a secure, permanent installation.

Step-by-step:

  1. Drill the holes: Using your drill and the appropriate bit (usually 6mm or 8mm - check your fisher plug size), drill holes at your marked spots. Drill straight into the wall to the depth of the fisher plug.

  2. Insert the fisher plugs: Gently tap the fisher plugs (rawlplugs) into the drilled holes using a hammer until they're flush with the wall surface.

  3. Position your art: Hold your wall décor piece against the wall, aligning the mounting holes with the fisher plugs.

  4. Screw it in: Insert the screws through the mounting holes in your art piece and into the fisher plugs. Tighten with a screwdriver until secure - but don't overtighten or you might crack the acrylic.

  5. Check level: Use your level to make sure it's straight before fully tightening.

That's it! Your art is now securely mounted and ready to impress.

Pro tip for concrete walls: Nigerian homes often have concrete or hard plastered walls. The fisher plugs we provide are specifically designed for this - they expand inside the hole to create a super-strong grip that won't pull out.

Step 4: Final Check & Adjustments (30 Seconds)

Almost done! Now let's make it perfect.

  1. Step back about 6 feet and look at your art
  2. Check that it's level
    • use your level or smartphone app
  3. For screw installations: Make small adjustments by loosening the screws slightly, repositioning, and re-tightening
  4. For adhesive installations: If it's not straight, there's no adjustment possible - this is why Step 2 (marking and checking placement) is so important!
  5. Erase any pencil marks with an eraser
  6. Clean the surface with a soft, dry cloth to remove any fingerprints

Pro tip: Take a photo with your phone before installing. Sometimes the camera shows things your eye misses - like if your marks are slightly tilted.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Let's make sure you get it right the first time:

❌ Hanging too high
Your art isn't a ceiling decoration. Keep it at eye level, even if you have high ceilings.

❌ Not using a level
Eyeballing it rarely works. A crooked piece of art is the first thing people notice (and not in a good way).

❌ Rushing adhesive installation
Take your time to get the placement perfect. You only get one chance!

❌ Installing adhesive strips on rough walls
They won't stick properly! If you have textured or rough walls, contact us before ordering and we'll send you screws and fisher plugs instead.

❌ Hanging on freshly painted walls
Wait at least 7-14 days after painting before using adhesive strips, or they won't hold.

❌ Overtightening screws
Acrylic can crack if you tighten too much. Snug is good; super-tight is not necessary.

❌ Spacing multi-piece sets too far apart
They should look like one cohesive unit, not random pieces scattered on the wall. Keep spacing consistent at 2-4 inches.

❌ Forgetting to measure
"It looks about right" is not a measurement. Use your tape measure!

❌ Not telling us your wall type before ordering
We can't send additional hardware after shipment. Let us know upfront if you need screws instead of adhesive!

What If You Need to Remove Your Wall Art?

For Screw Installations:

  • Simply unscrew and remove
  • Fill the holes with wall filler or toothpaste
  • Let it dry, then touch up with white paint if needed

For Adhesive Installations:

  • Remove very carefully! Try to wiggle the piece gently to loosen the adhesive grip
  • Work slowly and patiently - rushing can damage your wall paint
  • If the adhesive is very strong, use a thin piece of fishing line or dental floss to gently saw behind the piece

Special Tips for Nigerian Homes

For Concrete/Plastered Walls:
Most Nigerian homes have concrete or hard plastered walls. The fisher plugs we provide are perfect for this - they create an expansion grip inside the wall that's incredibly strong. Don't skip the fisher plugs and try to screw directly into concrete - it won't hold!

For Newly Painted Walls:
If you've just painted (or your landlord just did), wait at least 2 weeks before using adhesive strips. Fresh paint needs time to cure, or the strips will peel off along with the paint. If you can't wait, request screws and fisher plugs instead.

For Humid Areas (Bathrooms, Kitchens):
Acrylic is moisture-resistant and perfect for these spaces, but adhesive strips may not hold well in very humid areas. We recommend using screws and fisher plugs for bathroom or kitchen installations.

For Rental Apartments:
If you're renting and worried about holes, adhesive strips are your friend - they remove more cleanly than screw holes (though still require care). Just make sure your walls are smooth and the paint is fully cured.

Not sure which installation method you need? Contact us before your order ships and we'll make sure you get the right hardware for your wall type! Remember, we cannot send additional equipment after shipment.

Maintenance: Keep Your Art Looking Fresh

Once your art is up, here's how to keep it looking brand new:

Weekly: Dust with a soft, dry microfiber cloth

Monthly: Wipe with a slightly damp cloth if needed (for acrylic, avoid harsh chemicals)

Yearly: Check that the mounting hardware is still secure, especially for larger pieces

Pro tip: The beauty of acrylic is that it doesn't fade, warp, or collect moisture like canvas or paper art. A quick wipe is all it needs to stay looking pristine - perfect for Nigeria's climate!
